Venice to Dolomites: The Perfect Road Trip Itinerary

A road trip to the Dolomites from Venice is an unforgettable experience that takes you through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in Italy. The journey to the Dolomites will take you through small villages, alpine meadows, and majestic mountain ranges. The Dolomites are known for their stunning natural beauty, and there are plenty of places to stop and admire the scenery. Whether you are an avid hiker or simply looking to take in the views, there are plenty of activities to enjoy on this road trip. From the iconic peaks of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo to the charming mountain towns of Pieve di Cadore, Auronzo di Cadore, Misurina, and Cortina d’Ampezzo, the Dolomites have something to offer everyone. Here is Venice to Dolomites road trip itinerary.

Driving Yourself vs Going on a tour

While organized tours can be a convenient way to explore a new destination, they can also come with some limitations, such as fixed itineraries, limited time at each location, and the potential for unreliable tour guides or drivers. We went on small group tour that was a major disappointment. So, I regret not renting a car and driving to Dolomites on our own.

Renting a car and embarking on a road trip allows you for greater flexibility and freedom in choosing your own itinerary, making spontaneous stops along the way, and spending as much time as you want at each destination. Additionally, it can be more cost-effective for groups, as rental car fees can be divided among passengers, and you have the option to choose accommodations that fit your budget.
