2 days on St. Croix-My list of best thing to see and do

St. Croix is the largest of four US Virgin Islands; it is also the most remote island. There are two main cities on the island. Christiansted on the north-east side and Frederiksted on the west side of the island. Both towns are beautiful and have a lot to offer. Both towns built around old forts and get their names from the names of forts. Below is my suggestions on what do do on the island and how to see St. Croix in 2 Days.

Why “St. Croix”?

The island was named Santa Cruz (or “St.Croix” in French), that means “Holy Cross”,  by Christopher Columbus.

How to get to St. Croix.

St. Croix has an airport, so the easiest way to get to the island from US mainland or other Caribbean Islands is by plane. You can fly directly to Henry E. Rohlsen Airport located on the west side of the island. There is also an official USVI ferry service, private ferry service and  you can get to the island by seaplane.

Note:  According to Virgin Island Port Authority’s website there is currently “no ferry service between St. Croix and St. Thomas until further notice”.

How much time to spend on St. Croix.

St. Croix is the largest of four US virgin islands and the most remote one.  You can see St. Croix in 2 days or can spend a week or more enjoying the Caribbean sun and world class snorkeling and diving.

Getting around St. Croix.

There is a public transportation on the island but is it super slow and no reliable. The easiest way to explore the island is to rent a car, you will have more flexibility  will be able to see more places. The other option is to spend a day or two on the east  side of the island, take a bus to the west side and spend couple of day there or vise versa.

There is also taxi service, but it can get pricey.

If you are planning to spend couple of days on the island I strongly recommend renting a car.

St. Croix in 2 Days.

My recommendation here is to spend first day exploring the north east side of the island around Christiansted and spend the second day  on the north fo the island. This will allow you to get a feel of both side of the island during your 2 days on St. Croix.

Day 1  – Christiansted

Christiansted is substantially bigger, has more businesses and more sightseeing opportunities. Located on the north side if the island, Chrisitiansted is a great base for diving and snorkeling on the Buck Island, known as Viirgin Islands’ diving mecca. So, I recommend spending majority of your time in the island on the north side if diving or snorkleling is your thing.

Day 2 – Fredericksted

Frederiksted can get crowded the days cruise ships stop there, but the rest of the time it is fairly small quiet Caribbean town with friendly locals, good restaurants and, of course, beautiful white sand beaches.

Final thoughts.

With its word-class snorkeling and diving, two national parks and bioluminescent bays St. Croix is a very  unique Caribbean island that totally worth visiting. If you haven’t been to St. Croix yet, add it to your bucket list and it won’t disappoint.
