Santa Teresita thermal springs is a large thermal complex located close to Amatitlan lake. It is not your typical wild hot springs that you can find around California and southern Utah. The thermal springs are part of the resort that was built around the thermal springs area. The resort has 12 pool with different temperature called “thermal circuit” that includes 5 pools downstairs, 5 pool upstairs, Jacuzzi-style pool and one small children pool. The temperature in the pools range from cold to very hot, 41 C. The water comes to the pools straight from the natural spring. General suggestion here is to start from the cool bath and slowly move toward the hotter pools. The water does have a very light usual sulfur smell, but nothing that will make you uncomfortable. How to get to Santa Teresita from Antigua?
The best and most time efficient way of getting to Santa Teresita thermal springs from Antigua is to hire a private driver. Visiting Santa Teresita thermal springs was not even on my list of things to do in Guatemala. Our driver suggested to stop by for a quick dip after Pacaya Volcano drive. The complex offers free shuttle from Antigua every Wednesday 9am, you can book it here.

To ensure a pleasant and respectful environment for all visitors, it’s important to follow some basic etiquette rules while at the Santa Teresita complex. Here are some guidelines to keep in mind:
- Respect Personal Space: Maintain a respectful distance from other guests in the pools. As an example, a lifeguard may ask couples sitting too close to each other to separate to ensure everyone’s comfort.
- Follow Pool Rules: Pay attention to and follow any specific rules posted at each pool. This includes guidelines about diving, running, or bringing food and drinks into the pool area.
- Shower Before Entering Pools: Always rinse off in the shower before entering the pools to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.

- Appropriate Attire: Wear appropriate swimwear that is respectful and suitable for a family-friendly environment.
- Limit Public Displays of Affection: Keep public displays of affection to a minimum. Excessive affection can make other guests uncomfortable.
- Follow Lifeguard Instructions: Lifeguards are there to ensure safety and comfort. Always follow their instructions promptly and respectfully.
Restaurant
The resort has a very good restaurant that offers variety of traditional Guatemalan food. I ordered tamarind Margarita and steak and it was great.
Reflecting on Our Visit to the Thermal Springs
We didn’t originally plan to visit the thermal springs, but we’re glad we changed our minds. After hiking up Pacaya volcano , soaking in the hot pools was a fantastic way to relax.
The warm water felt great on our tired muscles, and the peaceful atmosphere was just what we needed. The beautiful surroundings made the experience even better.
We wish we had more time to spend in the pools and hope to come back soon. Next time, we’ll make sure to stay longer to fully enjoy the relaxing waters and the serene environment.
We highly recommend the thermal springs to anyone looking to unwind after an active day. It’s a perfect way to recharge and enhance your trip.
