Day 1

Road with the view

The best way to get to Borrego Springs is to take 78 east and turn left on Yaqui pass  road.  Stop by at Yaqui  Pass just before Bill Kenyon Overlook Trail to see the panoramic view of the desert. This is one of the best places to see desert bloom in early spring.

Galleta Meadows Sculptures

Once you hit Borrego Spring sign turn left on Borrego Springs Road. The first this you see on both sides of the road are huge rusty metal sculptures.  Turn on the dirt road and to see those amazing creations.  There is more than 100 of those sculptures installed in Galleta meadows. The man behind those sculptures is local artist Ricardo Breceda.  Download a map of Galleta Meadows sculptures location and enjoy. You can spend several hours   driving around those amazing detailed creations.  The road is not paved, but you can easily drive around in 2WD.

Visit Desert Garden

The small garden located behind Anza Borrego Desert Natural History Association. I love the the little pass  where you can see a lot of typical desert plant. There is a small ironwood tree,  smoke tree, palo verde and a lot of other plants. The garden is open year round, but best time to see this place is during the desert bloom. If you don’t have time to drive around the desert this garden will give you a basic idea about desert plants.
