Day 1
Road with the view
The best way to get to Borrego Springs is to take 78 east and turn left on Yaqui pass road. Stop by at Yaqui Pass just before Bill Kenyon Overlook Trail to see the panoramic view of the desert. This is one of the best places to see desert bloom in early spring.

Galleta Meadows Sculptures
Once you hit Borrego Spring sign turn left on Borrego Springs Road. The first this you see on both sides of the road are huge rusty metal sculptures. Turn on the dirt road and to see those amazing creations. There is more than 100 of those sculptures installed in Galleta meadows. The man behind those sculptures is local artist Ricardo Breceda. Download a map of Galleta Meadows sculptures location and enjoy. You can spend several hours driving around those amazing detailed creations. The road is not paved, but you can easily drive around in 2WD.
Visit Desert Garden
The small garden located behind Anza Borrego Desert Natural History Association. I love the the little pass where you can see a lot of typical desert plant. There is a small ironwood tree, smoke tree, palo verde and a lot of other plants. The garden is open year round, but best time to see this place is during the desert bloom. If you don’t have time to drive around the desert this garden will give you a basic idea about desert plants.
Stop by Tribal Trading Post
Tribal Trading Post is another place where you can see more of those beautiful metal creations. I spent some time in this store. They have a unique collections of the souvenirs from around the world, from pillow case and table runners from Guatemalan pillow cases to local native American souvenirs. I spent some time there and headed out to see little Garden behind the visitor center
Visit Borrego Art Institute
A small museum that has a lot of painting and other beautiful creations made by local artists for sale on display.
Day 2
Visit Anza Borrego State Park
This park is truly amazing place to see California desert, hike and learn about the desert history. You can easily spend several days hiking the trails and taking pictures of cactus and other desert plants. Stop by Anza Borrego park visitor center first to get a map of the park and learn about trail conditions and local weather forecast.
Important : If you are planning to hike, bring plenty of water and snacks as there is not water on the park trails.
