Willis Creek Slot Canyon is a another slot canyon we hiked in Utah. The hike is a relatively easy, family-friendly, and accessible. It also offers slot canyon hike, with stunning natural scenery and unique rock formations.
How to get to Willis Creek Trailhead
To get to the Willis Creek Slot Canyon trailhead, you will need to drive to the town of Cannonville in southern Utah. From Cannonville, drive east on Center Street toward Main Street. Turn left onto Main Street and continue for about 0.2 miles. Turn right onto UT-12 East and continue for approximately 12 miles. Turn right onto Skutumpah Road, which is a dirt road, and continue for about 6 miles.
Look for the trailhead sign for Willis Creek Slot Canyon on the right-hand side of the road. There is a small parking area near the trailhead.
Note: Skutumpah Road is a dirt road and may be impassable during or immediately after heavy rain or snowfall. The road is rough in places, so a high-clearance vehicle is recommended.
Willis Creek Slot Canyon hike
The Willis Creek Slot Canyon hike is approximately 3 miles roundtrip. You start from the short hikes in bushy area and in about 5 minutes you will get down to the canyon. The trail follows Willis Creek, which flows through a narrow and winding canyon with towering walls that range from 20 to 60 feet in height. Along the way, we had to do several shallow water crossings and pass sections of sandy terrain.
At about 1.3 mile the slot canyon ends. We followed the trail a little further and then turned around. The entire hike took us around 1.5 hours including all the stops for pictures.
Please check the weather forecast and avoid hiking in the canyon during or immediately after heavy rain. Also, make sure to come prepared with appropriate footwear, plenty of water, and sun protection.
