Fes is a city in northern Morocco, known for its rich history and cultural heritage. It is one of the country’s four imperial cities and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Fes is famous for its medina, which is the largest pedestrian-only zone in the world and is filled with narrow alleys, bustling markets, and beautiful architecture. I arrived to Fes late afternoon, went on a short city tour and the spent the next day exploring historic medina and surroundings. Although I was able to see and do a lot, I still feel it was definitely not enough time to enjoy Fes. Here is my perfect Three Day Fes itinerary that will allow you to properly plan your visit to Fes.
My Experience visiting Fes
My one day in Fes was both exhilarating and overwhelming. I started the day with a delicious breakfast at the hotel before embarking on a private tour of the city. The tour took us to some of the most iconic landmarks of Fes, including an overlook that offered stunning views of the city, the Jewish Quarter of Mechour Fes Jdid, Jnan El Quad, and Borj Sud, where we witnessed the breathtaking view of the Medina.
Next, we visited the Paterie de Fes, where we got to see the intricate process of pottery-making and even picked up a few souvenirs. Lunch in the Medina was an unforgettable experience, as we indulged in some of the most delicious local cuisine. After lunch, we headed to Chaudray Tannery, where we took a tour and witnessed the age-old process of tanning leather.
Later in the afternoon, I explored the Souks of Fes and done some shopping, the got lost and had to ask local kids to show me the way to blue gate. Then I walked around more and got lost again, spent some time walking narrow streets then eventually found my way out by myself , which I was very proud of. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the four-hour private tour of the Medina with a knowledgeable guide, where we got to visit the beautiful Al-Attarine Madrasa and learn about the history and culture of Fes. By the end of the day, I realized that one day was simply not enough to fully appreciate all that Fes has to offer and wished that I had planned for at least two to three days.
