Our guide, Yusuf, invited the entire group for lunch to his house. He has been working as a porter for a while and later became an official Kilimanjaro guide.
Yusuf’s wife and mother in law cooked lunch for our group. Couple of their neighbors helped cooking the food and stayed with us for the meal. We had traditional Tanzanian stew (mbuzi), rice, beans, soup and some kind of cooked greens with very distinct nutty taste looking similar to chard.
Yusuf’s recently renovated his house. The house had running water, and showers, which is not common for the area.
A lot of neighbors’ kids were playing outside. They loved playing with my camera taking pictures of each other.
It was a great experience to have authentic Tanzanian food with Tanzanian family.
