Classic Beef Stroganoff Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 lbs (680g) beef sirloin or tenderloin, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced(optional)
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (240ml) water (or beef broth for more intense flavor)
  • 1 cup (240ml) sour cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
  • Egg noodles or rice, for serving

Instructions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add thinly sliced beef and cook until browned on all sides. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add chopped onions and cook until translucent. Add minced garlic and sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  3. Sprinkle flour over the onion and garlic mixture, stirring constantly for about 1 minute to eliminate the raw flour taste.
  4. Pour in water, keep stirring to combine. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  5. Add the browned beef back into the skillet, allowing it to simmer in the sauce until the beef is cooked through and the sauce thickens (about 20 -25 minutes)
  6. Reduce the heat to low and stir in sour cream. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer gently until the sauce is heated through.
  7. Serve the beef stroganoff over egg noodles or rice. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley.

Storage Instructions:

Refrigerate any leftovers in an airtight container. To reheat, gently warm the beef stroganoff on the stove, adding a splash of broth or water to maintain the creaminess of the sauce. Enjoy within 2-3 days for optimal flavor and texture.
